Many people argue over if the government should be run like Hobbes states with a version of an unlimited government, or as Locke states with a government that is more limited. Government should be run as Hobbes argues, because without government people will become enemies and go to war, man won’t be treated equally, and people won’t be able to have a society. To begin with, without Unlimited Government people will become enemies with each other. This is shown when Hobbes states,”... If any two men desire the same thing, which nevertheless they cannot both enjoy they become enemies…” If people can’t both have the item that they want, then they will both fight over it and as a result, they will argue and not be civil to each other. He is stating how because the food isn’t good and neither are the people we will have no reason to work together and then no one will want to participate in a culture with others that aren’t civil. “... no knowledge of the face of the earth; no account of time; no arts; no letters; no society” Since, people are at busy fighting over who gets what we will have no time to produce goods. Without goods people will have no need for each other causing us to not a community or society. It also states that “[n]o man has natural authority over his fellow man.” If we don’t have goods or anything then people in general will have one man rise up to be the most powerful which is not something he has power to do. If citizens would start with a general power then they will not fight over who is greater and compete to make the world a better society. In conclusion, people will agree with Locke because they believe that humans have rights and need more freedom, but all in all without more of an unlimited government as Hobbes argues we will have no society, people won’t treat each other equally, and people will become enemies and go to war with each
