There is always opposition to pesticides because of the harm that it can cause on the environment and the animals alike. Pesticides though have saved a lot of hard work for farmers over the past couple of decades because it does all the dirty work, for example, the killing of weeds and other pests. Pesticides have also saved a lot of money for farmers by preventing pests from damaging crops or taking the nutrients and water supply away from crops. (Whitford, 7) In the future we need to start to find less toxic ways to prevent pests from attacking the crops and vegetation. This would prevent a lot of the other costs associated with pesticides for example, health costs for farmers that are exposed to the toxic chemicals or the killing of the habitats in the surrounding areas.
The long term effects of wiping out a species in the environment and natural habitats can have catastrophic and have unforeseen consequences for many generation s to come. One of the biggest things is the news now is all about honey bees and the effect that it will and has had on the world. The outcome being devastating on many levels from the honey to the pollination process that is essential to growth of plants, that can decimate the worlds food surplus from plants, animals, and humans, causing a world crisis. Wolves may not have the same impact as bees, but that’s because we may not see the danger in letting this species go extinct. There are “some” state and federal parks, mostly in Idaho, Wyoming , and Montana, who are try to get a
The government can create a simple, yet effective, law stating that you can only use bee safe pesticides and products to avoid poisoning them. The public, on the other hand, can begin planting pollinator-friendly plants to give the bees extra support. Also, more of the public can consider becoming a beekeeper, a typically overlooked job. By becoming a beekeeper, one would have the responsibility of attempting to improve general honey bee health and habitat conditions and battling known mortality factors by using previously successful practices. Additionally, farmers can begin to switch to organic farming.
A honey bees ' wings stroke 11,400 times per minute, making a distinctive buzzing noise (Delaplane). There are many things that people don’t know about bees. Such as when beekeeping started, the difference between hobbyist and commercial beekeepers. There are also different types of bees, different types of honey and different uses of honey. Most people are perfectly fine never encountering a bee or knowing anything about them.
“Mankind will not survive the honey bees’ disappearance for more than five years” said the famous scientist, Albert Einstein. One issue that nobody pays attention to is that everytime a bee dies, nature is hugely impacted. The majority of people believe that bees are killers and horrible insects, but several types of foods depend on bees to pollinate them. Although they seem threatening, they’re harmless unless they feel like they’re threatened. This world doesn’t realize that without bees, there won’t be any more foods from almonds to strawberries.
With less crops, animals that rely on crops for food have to starve, also leaving farmers jobless. Bees are essential to the human population, but due to exotic fertilizers and habitat loss, countless species and jobs are endangered. Today, bees pollinate plants
A more legislative route would be to help pass bills that limit the use of pesticides that kill or repel bees. This may worry some, but bees are crucial in crops growing because of their
One of America’s rapid growing problems today is crack babies. When you use the term or even hear the term crack babies, you think that the baby have been put on the drug or is even doing it themselves. But as a child, they have no say so or way of determining if they are a crack baby or not. So many pregnant women do drugs every day and the number is just increasing by the hour, it’s absolutely ridiculous. All mother have so much say so in their child’s life.
Also in the wild, honey bees usually live in one place at a time and have a winter break to store up their food. Farmers today travel their bees around the country to help grow and pollinate their crops. When they do this they take time away from the bees resting period and this causes bees to die. Pesticides, which kill certain plants, animals, and fungi, cause another reason for the bees deaths. Even though the pesticides do not mean to kill the bees, just a small dose can cause the bee to become immobilized.
Hazel Sillver says, “Honey bees are declining in population and may be facing extinction. This is bad not just for the bees, but also for humans, who rely on bees to pollinate many plants and important agricultural crops.” Without bees, crops cannot be pollinated, which stunts growth and can cause the crop to be uneatable or it could be left with very low nutrients. Later, Hazel Sillver states, “The bee is vital…. It pollinates
Capitalism played a pivotal role in the rise of technological innovation, adaptation of labor practices, and redistribution of wealth during the Industrial Revolution. Still, it did not stand alone in the emergence of the modern Western world. The Enlightenment brought with it an increasing emphasis on education and a call for women’s rights, which contributed just as profoundly to the social atmosphere now experienced. While the emergence of capitalism set the stage for the modern Western economy, early attempts at equality and the expansion of an educational environment were foundational to society as we know it.
When bees are in contact with the toxic pesticides, they may also be intoxicated and not be able to find their way home. Who would have known that pesticides, created for better crops, would cause more harm than good? It is like a nefarious virus humans created that in fact is themselves and everything around them. So, what can we do to help out?
Imagine entering your local food store and seeing that items most people eat everyday have been discontinued. Items such as coffee, apples, cucumbers and honey are no longer available to consumers. This may not be possible in our generation, but one day it could very well happen. My name is Matt Shaw from the Millsap FFA, and I am here today to talk to you about a major issue that is facing agriculture, the honeybee population.
Bees are major factor in our environment. But recent studies show that we are to blame for the decline in the Bee populations. The main reasons are industrial agriculture (pesticides), mites and climate change. And we should care about them because they provide us with honey and beeswax, and provide a major ecosystem service in the form of pollination. Bees pollinate a lot of crops like apple, citrus, strawberry, blueberry, tomato, melon, oilseed rape, carrot, etc.
Due to pollution, air quality is already poor. The deficiency of all of these factors will inevitably affect humans negatively. In order to protect the pollinators, the environment, and mankind, we must reformulate pesticides or cease the use of them altogether. Dr. Fairbrother, a renowned scientist and former member of the Environmental Protection Agency, noted that commercial bee-keeping companies reported losses of up to ninety percent of their colonies in 2006 (719). Scientists are blaming the losses on Colony Collapse Disorder.
