Ice can be very slippery and dangerous. There are thousands of people hurt and even killed because of ice every year. But why is ice so dangerous? What makes it so slippery? The thing that makes ice so slippery is when it freezes with all the pressure it compacts it very tightly and causes there to be no air so it is just a solid, smooth, slippery piece of glass basically. Ice sickles can also be very deadly, falling sickles kill over 1000 people in the world every year. Ice sickles form when snow or ice melts on something that is above freezing and runs down to the cooler air and it start to refreeze onto its self. A half pound ice sickle can reach up to 80 to 90 mph before hitting you in the head it would only have to fall around 30 feet to reach this speed. When ice is traveling this fast it would hit you with about 1000 pounds of force. The best way to prevent the amount of ice sickles that build up is to not let warm air from your house leak into your attic it will melt snow and it will refreeze into ice sickles. You could also make sure your attic is vented correctly; have enough insulation in your attic to keep large amounts of heat from leaking into your attic. …show more content…
