Pros And Cons Of Mandatory Military Draft

more intense today. People riot and protest just about anything these days. My own father has stated, he would not allow me or my brother to be drafted. He said "I would leave the country before I would ever let that happen". I highly doubt it would be a great move for our country to suddenly implement a draft now. There would be a lot of resistance. So should we stay with a completely volunteer military? The answer is yes.

The change from the draft to an all volunteer system went extremely well. The draft was ended right after the Vietnam War which was a complete disaster in itself. The new system we have has emerged. People are still adding up the pros and cons of bringing such a controversial policy back. This does that not change the fact the draft definitely goes against our civil rights. This does not adhere to our countries liberal and capitalistic society that thrives on free will. So why are some people still in favor of conscription. Its a reasonable conclusion that some people are just not equipt or willing to kill others in battle. Is it wrong of them to not want to give up their life for a war they possibly do not even believe in. Does anyone still believe that a man or woman's life belong to the state? How could the government justify taking their lives by unwillingly sending them into war, it's just wrong on so many levels. The last point I can make is really the most important one. It's the thought of not having a bunch of young fresh out of high school draftees subsequently thrown into a new and advanced military, it is in the conclusion that the draft constitutes a huge violation of an individual's choice. Americans have always believed in freedom of choice. Its our civil right. Americans can feel animosity towards our military forces and the government if they take away this civil right. Politically it is a horrible idea as well as not having the funds to completely remake the military in the way we would need to reinstating a draft. The good thing is that the chances of a draft ever being carried out down the line are pretty much slim to none. Can't imagine seemingly intelligent people coming back to such a
