Mars Pathfinder's Sojourner Rover was the first ever rover to land on Mars. It first made contact with Mars on July 6, 1997. Since then many rover missions have been completed successfully. A rover is pretty much a vehicle that moves on the surface of a planet so we can see the planets up close and look for possible landing areas, the planet’s features, and even life. Rovers are large robots in space that travel around planets so we can see what they are like up close takes pictures and collects dust for scientists to look at. Rovers are quite useful as they are robots and not humans meaning that there is less risk involved in the journey, they can also discover planets that humans are not ready to investigate themselves. However these rovers …show more content…

They are very expensive and when missions fail lots of money is lost. There are lots of factors to consider in any part of space exploration. Starting with the advantages of the rovers, one of the biggest ones would be that it allows detailed up close aspects and features of different planets without the use of an actual person. They can also go to planets that humans are not capable of going to and would most likely die of they did. A big problem in space exploration would be the danger involved. The first issue that people encounter would be that we don’t know whether or not the craft will take off and make it into space, which wastes billions of dollars, and ends the lives of astronauts. It also is a hit or miss when astronauts are landing at the destination. After a long time of travel, if something goes wrong when trying to land, they could crash and waste even more lives, time, and money. Not only this but people in space have to deal with zero gravity and the type of weightlessness they experience with zero gravity wrecks their body, and can cause dysfunctional immune cells, or red blood cells to explode, it also causes kidney stones and can affect cardiovascular health. Humans are at a constant health risk when going into space. Rovers, however, do not
