In the world of medical diagnostic imaging, several modalities have been developed that allow health care professionals to look inside a person’s body through the development of detailed pictures or scans. Computed Tomography (CT) technology is one such modality that takes detailed cross-sectional images using computer controlled X-ray technology (Davis, 2016). Other modalities include standard X-ray and Magnetic Resonance Imaging both of which can also create pictures of inside the body. Since these modalities all serve similar functions, why would doctors need to choose from more than one method to diagnose a patient? To answer that question, you need to understand the pros and cons of using each modality.
