1125 Words5 Pages
Nowadays, most daily activities of human beings rely on fossil fuels heavily such as transportation, lighting, heating and communication. However, many scientists and experts forecast that fossil fuel will be running out in by the next century. Therefore, before its exhaustion, an alternative energy, is necessary to be developed. Among all renewable energies, we will discuss the pros and cons of nuclear energy, solar energy and wind energy.
To begin with, nuclear energy has several major advantages. A large amount of energy can be produced with only a tiny amount of energy input to the power generator. The maintenance cost is low also. Therefore, it is a cost-effective energy source comparable to fossil fuel. Moreover, unlike fossil fuel, it will not cause serious air pollution. Therefore, an increasing number of countries are now developing it.
However, after the two serious nuclear accidents - Chernobyl and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disasters, the movement of anti-nuclear is keeping on emerging around the world. More and more people know that the consequence of nuclear accidents, especially these two major accidents, are disastrous to both the environment and our health. The radioactive material is still contaminating the air, water, and finally our food today.
For the sake of human beings, should we continue using nuclear energy? This is not a difficult question to answer. Using Nuclear energy is just like purchasing a high-return but a high-risk derivative in the stock
