Mankind has evolved, created, and discovered many new and exciting breakthroughs since the beginning of existence. Although these advancements are ones that have helped us better adapt and live comfortably and efficiently in our environments, they are also the advancements that are slowly killing us and the world we live in. The truth is inevitable; according to The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) article, “Climate Change Evidence: How Do We Know?”, the earth’s average temperature has risen two degrees Fahrenheit since the 19th century, our oceans are warming, ice sheets and glaciers are melting, snow cover is sparse, sea levels are rising, and ocean acidification is increasing-- all because of an increase in greenhouse …show more content…

These plants use light energy from the sun and absorb CO2 and water to create a chemical energy where, after this energy is created, oxygen is then released. The benefits and advantages of phytoplankton over larger plants on land and within the ocean is that, according to the same National Geographic article previously stated, they are so small in size that millions can fit into a single drop of water. This means that phytoplankton have the ability to supply a greater amount of oxygen while occupying smaller square footage when compared to other plants. In fact, according to Dr. Sylvia A. Earle of National Geographic, phytoplankton account for such a large quantity of the earth’s total oxygen supply that it is estimated that one in every in five breaths we take is the oxygen produced from these marine plants (“Save the Plankton, Breathe Freely” …show more content…

This structure will be made of sturdy and durable glass to allow natural sunlight for the photosynthesis process and will contain two chambers at the top of the structure, one for taking in the CO2 from the atmosphere and one for releasing the oxygen produced by the phytoplankton back into the atmosphere. Inside the structure, there will be several holding tanks or aquariums containing the phytoplankton that will be monitored by trained professionals and/or scientists to ensure proper phytoplankton health and adequate oxygen levels. These structures will be placed in areas with higher concentrations of greenhouse gas emissions to help eliminate and filter pollutants out of the air and replace it with clean
