Revolutions were a common occurrence in many parts of the world. The 17th century was miserable. Between 1790 and 1848 many different people in Europe, Central America, the Caribbean, and other areas of the world struggled to gain freedom and independence from oppressive and dictatorial regimes. While the the French and Haitian Revolutions, inspired by the American Revolution, were alike in many areas such as social class struggles, economic inequities, and personal freedoms. Revolutions are all individual to the group rebelling and whom they are rebelling against. I think this relates to the situation we read about in Pakistan in I am Malala where many citizens are protesting the unfair
The idea of change is to make development, or advance toward a better future; however, to create change, society tend to fall under bloodshed. The American Revolution was a step to freedom, but the cause for independence has killed thousands of innocent lives. The result was seen again in the Civil War when the abolishment of slavery ended in destruction. The Revolution and Civil War might differ for whom they’re fighting for, but are similar with their use of violent. Understanding that violent is never the answer, Cesar Chavez, a labor union organizer and civil rights leader, seek a better approach to create change.
The notion that the government rules all have been repeatedly overturned throughout history. Every time a government oppresses its citizens, someone who feels the discontent of the people will arise. Whether they are seen as heroes or rebels is ultimately the public’s opinion. While heroes and rebels both have a similar purpose, the people’s opinions on their actions make all the difference. One who goes with the people's beliefs to solve their discomfort ends up as the hero of the people.

Daeja Thomas Nelson 20 May 2016 The American Revolution “The American Revolution, on the one hand, brought forth great vices; but on the other hand, it called forth many virtues…” claimed Dr. David Ramsay in 1789, warning that victory does not come without adversity, or in other words, has both negative and positive consequences (Ramsay). As the nation prepared to implement its first government under a new constitution, Ramsay published The History of The American Revolution, analyzing the advantages and disadvantages the war had on Americans. While he praised the “abilities, virtues, and vast expansion of the human mind” fostered by the Revolution, he also warned Americans to rid themselves of the “great vices” brought on as a result of
Political revolutions recur throughout history when governments don’t meet the needs of their people. During revolutions, there is usually a violent phase. The Reign of Terror and the Dirty War were times of horror, terror, and government reforms. While both revolutions were times of terror and reform, and though there were similarities, there were still many differences. During both the Reign of Terror and the Dirty War, there were many citizen deaths, most for no reason, Yet both revolutions started for or with completely different goals.
People said, “He is capable of making a decision and sticking to it.” Revolutions are caused by lack of freedom, lack of rights and lack of equality. Sergey Uvarov said, “Without love for the faith of its ancestors, a person, just as an individual, is bound to perish.” The Mexican revolution was fought because the people wanted to have more freedom from the Spanish. The Saint Domingue revolution was fought because the people there wanted freedom from the French.
Throughout the novels Night by Elie Wiesel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee and Cry the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, there are clear themes of rebellion, revolution or both. A rebellion is defined as an effort by many people to change the government or leader of a country by use of protest or violence. It may also be defined as open opposition towards a person or group in authority or the refusal to obey rules or accept the normal standards of behavior. A revolution is defined as a forcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favour of a new system. It may also be defined as a radical and pervasive change in society and the social structure; it is usually sudden and accompanied by violence.
When a revolution begins, the leaders believe that they can create a way of life more prosperous than the current state. The ideals created by these revolutionaries are typically composed of a prosperous society void of any oppression, discrimination, and dependence which are sought out by overthrowing the current government. These ideals of a perfect ‘New Society’ are ordinarily never carried out to their fullest potential. The restraint of how far a society can be ruled to perfection without the issues of human greed, discrimination, untrustworthy, and oppression isn’t very giving. Human greed alone is enough to topple a thriving society back to the original oppressive situation they had been in before.
The main cause for any revolution is the want for change. That’s the whole reason why we have revolution. In Revolutions, there is dissent among people, and that sparks change. That is true for every revolution in the world up to date.
