What is the Manhattan Project?
In 1939, the world feared that Hitler would build an atomic bomb after rumors spread that German scientists had learned the secrets of splitting a uranium atom. Scientist Albert Einstein and Enrico Fermi along with other scientist urged President Roosevelt to build an atomic bomb before Hitler did and Roosevelt agreed. In 1941, the American effort to design and build an atomic bomb received its code name “The Manhattan Project”. A number of scientists from different countries moved to the United States to join the project. Some of the greatest scientists included in the project were Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, Richard Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Harold Urey and many others. Scientist …show more content…

It is being taught in school to inform students with a correct understanding of history and science of nuclear weapons. Students should understand how the weapons were developed, how they work, and what problems over-came in making them. Students should also understand why the Manhattan Project was made.
How has the Manhattan Project influenced history?
The Manhattan Project influenced history by numerous pros and cons. The pros would be that we are now in advance on nuclear weapons and bombs so we are better prepared for war. With the help of the Manhattan Project and science, creating new and advanced weapons will only continue to grow. The cons would be that there are more lives and houses that are at risk and being destroyed which will keep war to continue. The project has made its impact on history and also in science.
