Advanced technological tools are making it possible to measure and monitor workplace and employees in the near decade, but with raising concerns about privacy of the employees and the unchecked surveillance in the workplace (Lohr, n.d.). The policy of monitoring should be fair to the employee ensure it does not offend the law (Grover, n.d.). According to Köksal and Uğur, The Council of Europe has emphasized on the principle of fair monitoring. The organization should provide regular training to the employees who process the monitoring information so that they will treat their job seriously. Confidentiality of personal data should be ensured by both employer and employees and no discrimination should be incurred in this process. The organization needs to ensure that the data provided is only being accessed by authorized personnel and not being shared with third parties. Moreover, some information that will invade the employees’ privacy such as the employee’s religious, belief and sex life should not be gathered. Since workplace monitoring is to enhance the job performance, the employer should not monitor the employees after work hour. For example, device to track the employee’s location should be shut down after the working hours. However, in most of the organization, it is hard to extinguish between working hour and non-working hour or so called work related and non-work related.
