There are many types of cancers in the world. Each and every one of them has their own origin, for example, reproductive cancers, which can be in both males and females. In men there are multiple types of reproductive cancers. One of them is known as prostate cancer, which is located in the prostate and is a small walnut-shape that produces seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm, according to Fig.1 (Mayo Foundation, 2015). It is a common cancer in men and can develop in three different ways (Mayo Foundation, 2015). It can grow slowly and stay in the gland, needing minimal or no treatment at all. The signs and symptoms are back and hip pain, difficulty urinating, blood in urine and semen, sexual difficulties, anemia, constant fatigue , bone pain, painful and difficult erection, pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips or upper thighs (National Foundation For Cancer Research, 2015). These symptoms do not show in the early stages; they show when the cancer has made progression in the prostate (National Foundation For Cancer Research, 2015). In the United States there are about 220,800 cases so far this year and about 27,540 deaths a year (American Cancer Society,2015). 1 in 7 men during their lifetime develop it and 1 in 38 men will die from it (American Cancer Society, 2015). Prostate Cancer can be serious, but most men do not die from it (American Cancer Society,2015). In fact 2.9 million men in the United States who have had it at some point are still alive today (American Cancer Society,2015). Age plays a role in that the older you get, the higher your chances for developing it are (UpToDate, 2015). Ethnic background plays a role by African-American men are more likely to develop it then Hispanic or white men (UpToDate, 2015). Family medical history is a big factor because if your have a first degree relative, meaning your father or brother, that has prostate cancer, more than likely you will have it as well (UpToDate, 2015). Lastly but not least, diet has a role: if you consume too much animal fat or not enough vegetables, you increase your own chances (UpToDate, 2015). There are a couple of things you can do in your diet and lifestyle to minimize your chances of developing prostate cancer. In your daily life you should keep a healthy weight, exercise daily, and never smoke.If you do, stop as soon as possible (Prevent Cancer Foundation, 2015). There have been discoveries made that eating things like tomatoes and soybeans can reduce your chances because they contain lycopenes and isoflavones (American Cancer Society, 2015). As well as consuming Vitamin E, Vitamin D, and selenium which reduce the chances furthermore (American Cancer Society, 2015). Inheritance can play a role as mentioned above.
