There is a vast difference in prostitution as a career choice and sex trafficking and many other situations in between. The sex trade has been happening for thousands of years. The Oxford Dictionary describes the sex trade as "the sex industry, specifically the business of prostitution" (Oxford Dictionary) and prostitution "the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity for payment" (Oxford Dictionary). Unlike prostitution, sex trafficking is described as "the action or practice of illegally transporting people from one country or area to another for the purpose of sexual exploitation" (Oxford Dictionary). While these two different issues are comparable, they remain different.

The worldwide data research team, Statistic Brain, conducted a report on prostitution in 2017, which concluded that the estimated number of prostitutes in the world is 42,000,000 (Statistic Brain). However working as a prostitute, you are taking a chance of being arrested. You are also taking many additional risk like catching a disease, HIV, and have a greater chance of being raped. Drug addiction often plays a role in prostitution. A person may turn to prostitution to pay for their drug addiction or even a high-end prostitute ends up addicted to a drug like cocaine to be able to cope with the job. This paper has given a variety of information and resources to support the topic. Both ends of the spectrum need help. The people who chose prostitution as a career choice should understand they are worth so much more. They do not have to sell their body, and although it may seem easier, or the only way out, it is not.
On the first page, the topic was introduced and described as the broad spectrum of the sex trade to point out that the sex trade included many different situations. The history of the topic was discussed proving prostitution to be one of the oldest professions ever.
