In this particular article there is a discussion about the difficulties in regulating emotions when dealing with social anxiety. The authors explain that those diagnosed with social anxiety disorder experience heightened emotional intensity, poorer understanding and awareness of their emotions, negative reaction to their emotions and ineffective use of emotion regulating strategies (Helbig-Lang et al., 2015). This then leads to unsuccessful social interactions, which only cause the person to feel more anxious. The authors of this article conducted a study on students that were diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and the results concluded that students had high levels of negative emotions. These particular students did not know how to deal with and regulate their emotions effectively, which led to increased levels of social anxiety. The study these authors conducted involved testing to see if those with social anxiety had problems regulating their emotions. The results were that individuals with social anxiety disorder experienced high levels of emotional regulation difficulties. Individuals had difficulties controlling or changing their responses to difficult situations, thus leading them to have emotional regulation difficulties. The authors also concluded that, very little is known about the relationship between the symptoms of social anxiety disorder and emotional recognition
