Question 1 Multimedia is the use of computer to present the combination of five elements with links and tools that enable the user to navigate, interact and communicate. Multimedia comprises five elements, Text, Graphics, Audio, Video and Animation. Text is the simplest element used in Multimedia to convey idea or concept. Any alphanumeric symbols and numbers can be considered as text. A meaningful word can be formed through the combination of alphanumeric symbols or a statistic can be performed through numbers. There are a few types of text through computer. First, printed text that printed out through a printer and appears on paper. A printed text does not require a computer to present but the text is non-editable. Next, scanned text that is scanned from printed text. Software such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is used to recognize the text and convert it into digital form. Thirdly, the electronic text that are read by computer and stored in digital form. A conventional artwork and drawing can be converted into graphic by scanning into digital form. Graphic can be categorized into two types, Bitmap Graphic and Vector Graphic. Bitmap graphic is made up of many dots arranged in matrix and specific order while Vector graphic is stored as a mathematical formula. Thus, Bitmap graphic does not require special software to read because no processing is require before displaying it. However, due to this reason, it occupies more space compared to Vector graphic and take longer time to transfer over network. Furthermore, Vector graphic is resolution-independent, it means that quality of Vector graphic would not be affected by zooming like Bitmap graphic does.
