336 Words2 Pages
Public health and transportation: Before this new urban society there was waste running throughout the streets because France had no sewer system, the water would contaminate food supplies causing sickness and death. Under Napoleon III reforms happened to give Paris a total renovation this started with the improvement of the sewer systems and Paris now had twice as much freshwater as it had before. Transportation also improved; before this era horse drawn carriages were the primary way people would get around. With new engine-run machines transportation like trolleys were now cheaper, more effective, and cleaner than anything prior to them. Traffic circles also opened up roads and help demolish the worst of the slums.
