What Wins Wars? Punctuality and Self-accountability. Punctuality Noun 1. The quality or state of being punctual. 2. Strict observance in keeping engagements; promptness. When you are one time it sets the mood for the rest of the day. Do you arrive early? If so what do you do with your extra time that you have gained to start your day? Did you arrive on time? Did you arrive late and cause co-workers to have to take up your slack? Life is all about balancing your time and managing your priorities. This takes great self-accountability and self-discipline to insure you obtain the most out of what life has to offer. The Definition of Self-Discipline Noun The noun self-discipline describes the following: • The ability to do the things that need to be done. • The ability to train and control one’s conduct. • The ability to control one’s feelings and desires. Having the self-discipline to show up on time every time will take you far in life. People will rely on you to be there, to handle important matters and that you have the ability to lead others to the same level of expectations. Self-discipline is fundamental to be an adult. If you cannot control yourself and how you conduct yourself you will never go far in life. Here are some more reasons why people lack self-control: 1. Self-discipline isn’t inherent. It needs to be developed, strengthened and exercised. However, most people find it difficult to do so. Break bad habits. Focus on identifying and eliminating negative habits. All it takes is to make an active decision to change the habit. Once the decision is made, put it to practice and give your very best to stick to it. (Stop smoking, don’t use the snooze, don’t eat junk food all day.) 7. Reward yourself. Think about possible gratifications for being disciplined. Treat yourself to something nice, as it will help you to maintain your motivation in the long run.(when you do well at something give yourself some credit. Some people are their own worst critics.) 8. Make a plan. It is most beneficial to write down how exactly you intend to be more disciplined in what area of your life. Develop a clear plan and outline the different steps necessary to accomplish your aim.(have your day planned out, have a calendar to tell you when and where you’re supposed to be) 9. Tolerate emotional discomfort. One reason we give in to temptations is that we try to avoid pain. However, in some situations it can be quite beneficial for the paucity of your dreams to tolerate a certain level of emotional discomfort. Discipline will require you to withstand emotional discomfort.(we sometimes have to do what we don’t want to do. And that is okay within reason.
