Is the United States still doing what they did back then? We now have different values and a new way of thinking. Over the years, our society has grown smarter. Although we still rely on outside assistance, we have progressed further than our Puritan half. The Puritans believed that the Bible was God 's true law, and that it provided a plan for living. Since there were people who couldn 't read the bible, it was often misinterpreted. Using quotes from the Bible and from the Crucible, the United States of America has done away with its Puritan way of thinking.
The Puritans lived strictly off of what the Bible said, which is what they believed was right. However, the Puritans were misguided into thinking things from the world were bad. For example, “They did not celebrate Christmas, and a holiday from work meant only that they must concentrate even more upon prayer.” It is unfathomable that they were also infamous for their dealings with witchcraft accusations. Other times, that person would either be sent to jail or put on the stake to be burned to death. For example, “Marry WARREN: Goody Osburn - will hang!” An old who could barely stand would be hung because of the accusation. Unlike the Puritans, in America when you are accused of something your life is not thrown away so easily. Also, when you are put into jail, you still have a chance to be free.
It 's true the Puritans played an important role in American history, they do not influence American society today. The Puritans came to the New World in search of religious toleration, but they refused to accept people who did not share their beliefs. They did not create the form of democracy used by the American government today. Our system of government was founded through the roots of the British.
