The Second World War was a global conflict that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved most countries of the world, except for a few countries which remained neutral. The war was fought between two main groups: the Allies and the Axis Powers. The two main belligerent powers were the United States and its allies, commonly known as the Allied Powers, and Germany and its allies, commonly known as the Axis Powers. The Allies won this conflict because they had more powerful military forces than their opponents at all times throughout the entire war. For example, the Catholic Church has many ceremonies that all Catholics must go through such as baptism and confirmation. The purpose of these ceremonies are to unite people with God and each other. They also mark important life events like birth or marriage for example. In addition, some cultures have special dances that symbolize how an individual should act during certain situations (Born-Hagemann). These dances can be very symbolic because they help an individual remember what they need to do to fit into society. Ceremonies are also used to teach children how to behave within a culture; for example, when a child first starts school they will be made aware of different rules such as not talking during class time (Born-Hagemann). This helps them learn quickly because it gives them structure rather than waiting until later on when they may forget Cultural traditions are the beliefs, customs and behavior of a group of people. These can be passed down from one generation to the next or they can develop over time (Collins). For example, in many African cultures when someone gets married they will often give money or gifts to the family that they are leaving behind. This is because it shows respect for their culture and who they were before. Similarly, Christmas and Easter celebrations have been around for thousands of years so people know exactly what to expect when these holidays come around
