With so much being determined by one’s academic career, it is easy to lose sight of one’s true passion and calling in life. Thankfully, my parents set pursuing dreams as a priority. As a result, I realized early in my career that I have a great interest and talent in mathematics and statistics. While studying at Brigham Young University, my best friend, Dok Kwon, inspired me to become a financial analyst with accounting background. He helped me realize that having learned accounting as a basic language of business is one of key components to determine how to make business decisions in the finance industry. From my experience with Goldman Sachs, I have identified that the ability to write analytically and think critically are really important skills to be a competitive analyst in the finance and accounting industry. After the discussion with graduates and faculties from University of Utah, I discovered that the professors from this program mainly focuses on developing students’ analytical mindset to thinking critically and providing opportunities to the students to offer recommendations of each business issues in order to practice their analytical thinking process and to improve communication skills. University of Utah Master of Accountancy program also offers a unique opportunity for students to participate in professors’ research and academic work. Since University of Utah is one of the top national research institutions, the school has committed to invest in accounting research and are attracted to many faculties that are interested and research in variety of accounting fields. I’m very interested in pro-forma earnings forecasts research and audit fee differences in international accountings and being a part of this program definitely will prepare myself to understand scientific research methods as well as differences across accounting sub-disciplines and helps me in future research of my Ph.D.
