“A Modest Proposal” & Angela's Ashes Compared In the memoir of Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt in chapter VII he reads to a nearly blind man named Mr. Timoney, Jonathan Swift’s masterpiece “A Modest Proposal.” It is ironic due to the fact that the memoir as a whole can relate to the the passage of “A Modest Proposal.” Both of these works can compare and in the aspects of Irish poverty, yet they contrast very much due to the fact that one of the authors actually lived through it and the other just discusses things about it. Both authors use narration, tones, and imagery in their writing to convey their ideas and shape their work.
A movie poster is used to pull people in and to make them interested in going to see the movie. The poster for the movie Steel Magnolias, directed by Herbert Ross, simply uses images of the six main female characters. Steel Magnolias is a movie about six women living in the small southern town of Chinquapin Parrish, Louisiana, who share a strong bond of friendship and who must deal with the death of one of one of their friends. The movie reveals the strength and softness of these six women as they deal with the joys and heartaches of life, thus the title Steel Magnolias.
All Souls by Michael MacDonald and The Outsiders by SE Hinton use common tones in order to give their work more feeling. In All Souls, the writer's attitude is commonly nostalgic. “‘I miss this place,’ I said to him”... “I went on about this being the best place in the world” The book often talks about how despite living in a bad area it still felt homely and a place where he belonged.

Watching The Trouble with Evan was very difficult. There were so many things this family could have done to make things better, but every time they tried they just kept falling into their own ways. Insecure disorganized attachment was quite apparent between him and both of his parents. His parents had the tendency to verbally abuse him quite a bit, yelling things that most people would never imagine yelling at their child. Other times it seemed the mother would be frightened of Evan and his behavior.
Most teenagers complain about not having enough freedom. To be able to sit and eat ice cream out of the box at ten in the morning for breakfast or blast their favorite music as loud as possible. For most, college provides that, opening its campus to their students with gates of gold granting young adults the freedom that they dream about. Unfortunately, a new danger that once was cloaked from young minds is being revealed, making this freedom less obtainable. That danger is rape.
When comparing and contrasting the two television shows, Freaks and Geeks (1999), and the Gilmore Girls (2000), these are definitely two of the best shows about what it was like for an adolescent to be in high school in the past 3 or 4 decades. When I was a teenager in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, the shows that spoke to us about high school life were Eight is enough (1977) and James at 15 (1977). These shows dealt with issues of the time as well, but with Freaks and Geeks, the writers really were able to depict life in 1980 for young teenagers. Even though I was in my early 30’s when it came out, it still took me back to that time and brought back that teenage angst. It goes to show that no matter how old a person is, what era they grew up in, or are growing up in, the issues that adolescents deal with on a daily basis are still there, the playing field may just change a little bit.

The Allegory of the Cave is an ancient knowledgeable philosophical work made by the Greek philosopher, Plato. He emphasizes the significance of humans achieving wisdom, intellectual insight, knowledge and education as a metaphor in his story (Plato, 246-249).
History does not always convey the absolute truth. It offers only one side of the story. The strong and powerful voices always drown out the sounds of the weak and beaten. The winner’s word will always be taken over the loser’s. The content that lies within the textbooks was not written by the defeated.
The film 'Clueless', written and directed by Amy Heckerling, is an adaptation of Jane Austen's novel 'Emma' and closely parallels the story in terms of characters and the stories plot. Upon first viewing, the context of both 'Emma' and 'Clueless' are somewhat different and therefore, the values have changed but the film reinforces the values of 'Emma' despite the contextual difference. The film "Clueless" has scenes in which the values of Jane Austen's "Emma" are reinforced and solidified. The context of "Emma" is a time in which women are given little freedom and there is a social class hierarchy which is solid and expectations are given depending on one's position in society. In life, the world one lives in is always assumed to be the reality, without anyone questioning its credibility. As Iris Murdoch once said, “[People] live in a fantasy world, a world of illusion. In The Allegory of the Cave by Plato, prisoners are trapped in a cave and chained so that they are to face a wall and only see the shadows of objects that pass behind them.
Death of a Salesman has been extremely influential in regards to theatrical performance and it has been performed by multiple different theatre groups. It has also been made into a movie, which has actors such as Dustin Hoffman as Willy Loman, John Malkovich as Biff Loman, and Kate Reid as Linda Loman. All of these actors’ performances were true to the character and were extremely realistic. It was easy for the audience to get caught up in the characters that these actors portrayed. Throughout the movie, Dustin Hoffman, John Malkovich, and Kate Reid all provided an outstanding performance by ensuring that their facial expressions, body language, and emotions always shined through all the while they were creating realistic characters that were easily believable by the audience.
Citizen Kane tells the story of Charles Foster Kane, a millionaire newspaper tycoon, who had recently passed away. The story unfolds in a sequence of overlapping narratives told by different narrators, all with different views of Kane. Their opinions of Kane give the audience different perspectives of the man thought to be one of the most powerful figures in America. The events recalled are told by the narrators to reporters trying to decipher Kane’s famous last words “rosebud”, but because of their advance older age they seem to be contradictory and unreliable. Their accounts are out sequence and often coincide with themselves.
