Maggie Wayman Dwiggins Computers 9/20/14 Queen Elizabeth I Elizabeth Tudor was born September 7th, 1533 in Greenwich, England. Her mother and father were Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII. At her birth she was made Princess of Wales, but was made illegitimate two years later after her mother was beheaded. During her life Elizabeth had four stepmothers. The first one was Jane Seymour who gave birth to Prince Edward VI, but Jane later died from childbirth. Her second stepmother was Anne of Cleves, who is sometimes called “sister of the king” because when the king first saw her he thought she looked like a horse and wanted a divorce but still wanted to be friends. She excelled in music and foreign languages. The languages she excelled in are Latin,Greek, and French. Her governess was Kat Ashley who played a very important role in her life and acted like a mother to her. As one of her Christmas presents to Queen Catherine she translated poems from Italian to Latin and then to French. The poem book cover shows the initials of the queen and the king intertwined. After her father died in 1547, Edward her step brother came to power since Mary was made illegitimate when Elizabeth was born. Catherine had convinced Henry before he died to include Mary and Elizabeth in the line of succession but Edward would reign first then Mary then Elizabeth . Edward was only nine when he became king. Elizabeth at the age of 14, lived with Catherine Parr and her new husband, Thomas Seymour. When Catherine died in 1548, Thomas wanted to marry Elizabeth so when Edward died and Mary died, Elizabeth and him would become king and queen. Mary had lost her crown as queen and fled to England for protection but as soon as she got there she was arrested. Elizabeth was afraid she would lose her crown to Mary because Mary was a granddaughter of Margaret Tudor, Henry VIII’s sister and a devout Catholic. Elizabeth was afraid that the English Catholics would rebel because they wanted the Church to be fully Catholic. Elizabeth did not want to kill her but after 18 years of being locked up Mary was executed because she was involved in plans to assassinate
