For my HarpWeek discussion I chose to look at Gordon Under Medical Inspection. Gordon Under Medical Inspection depicts a drawing of a runaway slave getting a medical examination after having successfully escaped from the north to the south. The main focal point of the drawing are the many scares that are present on the man's back. These scares are more than likely the results of having been wiped and beaten by his previous slave owner who he had escaped from. I feel that the artist was trying to portray the cruelty of slavery, and that by showing the many scares on the runaway slaves back it is supposed to invoke a reaction of pity for the man who had been abused, and thus humanizing him in the eyes of the people.
Exercise 14: Unknown Identification Lab Report The purpose of the study was to identify the unknown bacterium using various biochemical tests in addition to using scientific methods in determining the outcome of the hypothesis. Each biochemical test will help determine the bacteria based on specific characteristics of each organism. I was giving unknown number 232. The first procedure that needed to be done after obtaining unknown bacterial mixture was to isolate the two bacteria in a pure culture using the streak plate method described in Microbiology Laboratory Manual Eight Edition. The material used was trypticase soy agar (TSA) plate, nutrient plate, starch agar, hydrogen peroxide, iodine reagent and microscope.
The Holy Maid of Kent - better known as Elizabeth Barton - was a medieval visionary that asserted herself into King Henry VIII’s political sphere with her prophesies. She gathered a large following that were was enchanted by her visions, which created a whirlpool of disruption within Henry VIII’s reign. She was convicted of high treason and was subsequently hanged. Barton and her conviction crimes have have been disputed throughout history since they occurred in 1534. The following document will examine the definition of treason in the Tudor period, the evidence put forth to the judges, and Henry VIII’s motive to silence her.
After this we see more of Hale’s personality. He starts off as a kind man who felt pride in being asked to make certain of the witchcraft and fells confident in his faith and knowledge. He is an honest man and relies on evidence to determine whether or whether not witchcraft is happening. There is no superior motive. “No, no.
John is smarter than that and accuses Abigail of lying but no one believes him. Pride is when a person has an excessive belief in one’s ability that it interferes with the recognition of God. Reverend Hale is very proud that he is called upon for his intelligence in the witchcraft field. Hale is summoned to Salem by Reverend Parris because his daughter, Betty, is in a comalike sleep.
His lone goal and consideration now is not to find the reasons for Betty's disease, yet to make seemingly noteworthy allegations and "fulfill" his obligation of keeping away the Devil. Through these sequence of actions, it proves that Hale plays an important catalyst in igniting the witch
This proves that he wanted to help John and Elizabeth, and wasn't just being a judge. The judges we all extremely involved with the decisions in the town. It was a corrupt system, but it was slowly falling
By understanding the characters in “Bloodchild”, it can be seen that Butler reversed the roles of
I believe this Act was amiss, reason being is because I have strong beliefs on
Now this man faces a new dilemma and wrestles with his conscience debating whether to save himself from the gallows with a confession to witchcraft, which he did not commit. Hale and the judges pressure him into confessing to a lie, even though he comes close to doing do. He cannot bring himself to
Some characters in the film who belong in the dominant group are seen to accept and support the main ideology of authority while publicly seen doing so, opposing strongly the actions of V. In the film, Lewis Prothero, the propagandist for Norsefire and ex-commander of Larkhill concentration camp, lived luxuriously in his home and makes millions from his pharmaceuticals drugs and antidotes. He is publicly seen spreading hate messages and tears down V in his talk show. The same can be said for Anthony James Lilliman, the corrupt bishop at Westminster Abbey who was promoted and gifted young women to do adultery acts with. These people who enjoy their status and position in society are filled with false consciousness and are in no way noticing the problem the government and authority hold. Furthermore, it can be seen clearly that V is well aware of this.
The author uses the emotions of both the narrator and the grandmother to show their different opinions on how they see their identities. “The awful grandmother knits the names of the people who have died and of the people who are still alive into one long prayer fringed with the grandchildren born in that barbaric country with its
Life and Death ‘’ Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world’’ (Volume 1 Chapter III, pp 33 in the Norton Critical Edition) seem to be creepy and odd especially when victor made the statement. To me that doesn’t sound right with the way Victor caimed, because it sounds absurd when reading it out. Therefore, what is striking about the whole statement is why the word death and why did victor use it at the first place.
