I have chosen to describe Spousal Abuse, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Attempted Carjacking: People v. Alfred Garcia. During the length of this documentary many events transpired starting with the Deputy District Attorney Tracy Prior giving her statements of the events that took place October 30th. She prepared by constantly being in her office explaining the case to her fellow’s colleagues. Brainstorming ideas that would help in her defense. I also believe she perform to the best of her ability regarding this case specially when receiving the win. She did not violate or neglect any given rules during the length of this case either. Her primary “responsibility is to bring criminal charges against individuals who are accused of crime and to represent the governments interest in court. (Craig Hemmens, 2017)”
3. What role did the defense attorney play in this case? What sort of defense did s/he mount for the defendant? Did s/he seem to perform to the best of his/her ability in regard to the case? Did s/he do anything that seemed to violate his/her duty? Did s/he neglect to do anything that s/he should have done?
Ray Aragon was the Defense Attorney for this case, and he did put up a fight for the prosecutors. He mostly used the fact that Ms. Garcia kept stating that it was an accident and that it was her fault, as their main defense and in the end, it did not work. Crime victims like Lucia and Rosalvas play an important role in the criminal court system. “Beyond the need for victim cooperation to successfully prosecute many crimes, the courts and the people that work in them have a moral obligation to treat victims with respect and dignity. (Craig Hemmens, 2017)” Lucia Garcia in my opinion did not help the case, because she kept stating that the incident that took place was an accident and that it was her own fault. Although Rosalvas Sandoval stated that her was in fear of her own life when Mr. Garcia attempted to carjack her brothers truck when she was sitting on the passenger side. One victim in my opinion helped the case against Alfred Garcia, when one victim stood beside the defendant during the length of the
