In December of 1777, American General George Washington and his men took shelter at Valley Forge for the winter. It was 18 miles northwest of the British camp in Philadelphia, and Washington thought it was a perfect spot. But that was not the case for the soldiers. The soldiers had it rough, and many did not want to enlist for the army after. Today, many people wonder if they would stay with George Washington, or not enlist and go home back to their families.
Following the French and Indian War, Great Britain had began tightening is control on its colonies in the north. The tightening of the British control worsened their relationship with the colonies because the imposing of taxes and acts had taken a toll on their pockets and daily lives causing an American revolution. After the French and Indian war, Great Britain’s control over the colonies tightened because they believed that since they had supreme legislative power over the colonies they could impose taxes on the colonists to help pay the debt after the war (Document 1). One of the many acts imposed in the colonists was the stamp act.
A small town where big things happen in southern Indiana, goes by the name of Bretzville. A place where businesses have begun but have also ended. A place that goes by a German name, still carrying the heritage. This tiny place of Bretzville, located in the middle of Dubois County may look microscopic from a large-scale, but it holds a great deal of history that has affected the way some people live today. Leaving Volksheim, Germany in the spring of 1837, Jacob Bretz and his wife Barbara along with their five sons and nephew began a journey to the United States.

I disagree with you. I believe that the colonists were not justified in resisting the British policies after the French and Indian War. As you stated, a country has a right to tax its own people and to enforce laws. Do you not agree then that it was okay for the colonists to have to be taxed too, since they had moved from England to America to live as British citizens? The colonists desired to be treated like every other British citizen, but at the same time, they did not think it was fair for them to pay taxes.
From 1765 to 1767, the British government passed laws in an effort to assert an authority over the colonies and colonists. These laws consisted of, but not limited to, the Stamp Act, The Declaratory Act, and the Townshend Acts. The passing of each of these laws did not result in a positive response from the colonies. The first of these acts that was passed was the Stamp Act. Britain had previously passed the Sugar Act that was not bringing in steady revenue to settle its debt, so another law was proposed called the Stamp Act (Goldfield, The American Journey, vol. 1, 125).
The United States gained its independence in 1776. After that, the United States struggled with numerous tariffs and compromises that can be arguing to be the cause of the civil war. The rise of political parties contributed to numerous political beliefs and ideas.
Taylor Marie McQuaid, also known as Taylor Quaid, is perhaps one of the most passionate and determined individuals at Central Dauphin High School. Taylor has always lived in Harrisburg, with her parents, older brother, cat, and three dogs including a boxer, a boxer-lab mix, and a miniature pinscher. She has however, ventured out of the 717 on many occasions, such as trips to Canada, Disney World, New York City, and her favorite place to visit, Lewes, Delaware. She does not like the chaos and filth of bustling cities and prefers plain food over exotic cuisine; thus, if she could go anywhere today she would go to Ireland and Scotland, the land of her ancestry. Ironically, the Irish flag proudly displays her favorite color, which is orange.

Barbarians have an impressive history despite the bloodshed left in their wake. They somehow went from a lone, nomadic clan to an allegiance of clans who conquered Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe in a very short amount of time. The Barbarians success was probably a result of their strategy and preparedness in war. First they had a specific chain of command for their army and a strategy for attacking that would make their numbers seem larger and surround their adversaries. Furthermore, they would not allow their adversary to rest while fighting and instead took turns to wear them out.

Human sacrifice has been a part of many religions, so why do historians only emphasize the barbarities of human sacrifice and not why people were sacrificed? The Aztecs were one of the many groups of people to use human sacrifice. The reign of the Aztec Empire was during the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries in Southern Mexico. The Aztec Empire had a huge population and was very influential in its time. Although influential and powerful the reign of the Aztec Empire came to an end in the year 1519 when Hernan Cortés, the Spanish conquistador, invaded the Aztec Empire and destroyed much of their culture.

“Knowledge is power,” Francis Bacon once said. The more one knows, the more one is able to control and change the world. Novels, such as Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, illustrate how knowledge gives one power. In Northanger Abbey, Austen tells the story of an unlikely heroine, Catherine Morland, who is obsessed with gothic novels. She travels with Mr. and Mrs. Allen to Bath, a resort and marriage market in England.
