For thousands of years, Quetzalcoatl was one of the most important figures in the traditional mythologies of Mesoamerica, Quetzalcoatl was a central figure in both their religion and culture. Quetzalcoatl- the feathered serpent, was considered by some to be the creator of men(4) and was therefore worshipped as a god. He was considered to be the god of life, morning sun, wind, and was linked with the planet venus- the morning star.(4) He was believed to have light skin, long hair,and a beard,following the traditional belief that old gods, especially the most pristine, had beards. Quetzalcoatl was believed to be a peaceful king dedicated to the faith of the feathered serpent. (1) Quetzalcoatl changed the original capital of Colhuacan to Tula. It is believed that Quetzalcoatl arrived at Tula as a stranger and taught the people there of wood carving, jewel cutting,and feather-working (2,1) Tula was believed to be a mystical land with foods growing to be the size of large rocks, and cotton naturally grown as vibrant bright colors. After seeing his unpleasantness he agreed to be dressed up in fine robes in order to look more attractive and enjoyable to the eye. After being dressed up and given a more pleasant appearance, Quetzalcoatl decided to go out into the world to show off his new apparel, but was convicted as a victim of vanity and pride the evil spirits also convinced Quetzalcoatl to commit many other crimes as well.
