In the short story “ A Street Car Named Desire” the Protagonist Blanche Dubois Avoids light for a number of reasons. Blanche feels she is old and must hide her looks. She routinely would avoid going out during the day and in well lit areas. When she starred dating Mitch she would refuse to go on dates during the day. Blanche was losing her sanity rapidly. Blanche in scene six tell Mitch “ … It was like you suddenly turned a blinding light on t=something that had always been a half shadow”. When she loses her husband she falls right back into that dark shadow. Blanche doesn't ever come out of the shadow into the light. 3.
