Book Talk - 13 Reasons Why
Most of us know or heard about the popular Netflix show called “13 Reasons Why” but did you know that it was originally a book written by Jay Asher? The novel is about a seventeen-year-old girl named Hannah Baker who decides to commit suicide because of all the bullying she’s been going through. Before she committed suicide, she left behind 13 cassette tapes, 13 reasons why she committed suicide. Each tape is about one person who did something that affected her in a horrible way. The way the tapes work is simple. You get the box of tapes, you listen to all 13 of them and then you pass it on to the next person who's on the tapes. If you don’t pass them on, a trusted friend of Hannah Baker will release a second set of tapes for the whole world to listen to and that’s not a good because it would negatively impact everyone on those tapes. This cycle keeps going until the last person receives the tapes and then it’s up to them what they want to do with it. Once you have these tapes, it’s up to you to decide whether they want to listen to all the tapes at once or take your time. Back to the book, the main character’s name is Clay Jenson. He was once a friend of Hannah Baker before she passed away. Unlike the Netflix show, the book is written
