He is going to Alaska because he robbed a hardware store and beat a boy named Peter Driscal so badly he could have died. The Rising Action is when Cole beats up Peter because Peter told the police that Cole had broken into a hardware store; and that he robbed the store and then trashed it. After nearly killing Peter some boys from their school pulled Cole off of Peter.
This lead him to be more trusting to others and the first time someone trusted Cole. Secondly, staying at Rosey’s hotel started to make Cole show a
So far the worst thing Roger has done is torture a pig, but he soon will take it up a notch and make his biggest act of cruelty: murder. In the middle of a stand off, Roger, “...[leans with] all his weight on the lever. … The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee…” (180-181) By committing murder, Roger has completed a heartless act, making him the most savage person on the island and revealing how his morals are wrong.
I already infer that he is definitely heading back though the proof of this is right after page 112 it states PART TWO RETURN TO SPIRIT BEAR in big bold letters. This has to mean Cole is going to return to the island and try to face spirit bear with a new attitude and hopefully this time he can succeed. “But the Spirit Bear was also a memory that would never disappear from his mind or heart,” (Page 112). This could mean that Cole wants to return to the island, what I mean by this is when you get connected to someone or something you tend to want to go to it or attract to it like a couple they always want to see each other so if they have the chance they go to each other. In this case Cole wants to return to the island because he had a connection to it, he is determined to see the spirit bear again.
When Peter is on the island, he doesn’t talk much and he is very distant at first but after his parents leave he acts like he’s the boss of Cole and pushes him around. Cole doesn’t do anything back to defend himself because he wants to prove to everyone that he has changed and if he does anything to Peter than it’s a step backward in his progress and he’s going to lose the trust that he had gained. After Peter got time alone with Cole, he beat him up and tried to pay Cole back for what he did but, when Peter
Cole was beaten by him throughout his childhood. This pain and anger gave him the personality and characteristic to inflict pain on other people. The two final themes have a very strong connection. In order to heal, mentally and physically, you have to learn to forgive and receive forgiveness. This was a lesson the reader and the main character, Cole, experience throughout the book.
The relationships in Cole’s life all had a different impact on him but specifically his relationship with Peter affected him a lot. Especially the part of the book when Cole found out that Peter told on him. “‘You’re a dead man,’ he warned... He laughed when he saw fear in Peter’s eyes”(7-8). This shows the relationship at the beginning of the book and clearly it wasn’t good.
Piggy is truly the brains behind Ralph’s leadership on the island. He comes up with all of the ideas, such as calling the group together by using the shell and taking names as a source of accountability; however, he is unable to carry out his ideas due to a lack in assertiveness. “We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They’ll come when they hear us” ( 16) .
When you read this book didn't you realize how much Cole had changed well so did I. In the beginning of the book Cole beat up Peter Driscol, and he didn't even regret it. For example “He didn’t regret hurting Peter. He would get revenge, especially against those who had wanted him in jail.” Page 45.
I think that Cole started to overcome this problem when he had just gotten back to the island and he was acting up, so Garvey and Edwin threatened to take him back to Minneapolis. “If he screwed up things this time, there would be no next time.” (Ben Mikaelsen, 176) Cole finally learns that he needs to be mature and smarten up now because this really is his last chance. He needs to make the
Cole learns to forgive his Dad in order to unload the anger he has directed towards him. The years of abuse have led Cole to see himself as a whale because he has no home and doesn't trust his family. This is why he was so angry and always lashed out at people. He wades through information that tells him his Dad doesn’t hate him, but he was beaten as a kid to. If he grew up learning that it was okay to do bad things to people then he still thinks that it is okay now.
One of the biggest ways Cole overcomes his anger is by doing the dance of anger. This dance helped him to overcome his anger because when he danced all his anger was drained from his body. His anger was drained from his body when he relived the pain, cold, and loneliness from the night of the attack. “I forgive you he cried loudly. I forgive you.”
Everything will turn out right in the end, and Cole exhibits this. The whole reason that Cole ended up o the island in the first place is because he made bad choices. These choices led to more bad choices and then Cole had a traumatic experience. This changes Cole’s life forever.
Cole makes those points obvious when he says that he prefers people having fear in him. Cole infact gets offended of someone/something doesn’t get startled by him. Cole likes control of the situation (when he thrashed Peter, for example.) Throughout the book Cole made it clear that he was infact thinking out failing banishment, when he atemped an escape. Every action Cole took on that island was to prevent change, and what the act of banishment was meant
