When Amir fought Assef, most of Amir;s body was getting beat up except for one part, his eyes. During the whole fight, Assef hit his stomach and face, only hitting below Amir’s eye once. One punch to Amir’s eye and he would’ve become blind in one eye or both, but he can still see for a reason, because he saw terrible things, but Assef couldn’t allow Amir to unsee what he did to Hassan. Foster mentioned that every story takes place in a specific location for a reason, like in “The Old Man and the Sea”. This story could’ve easily taken place in the Caribbean, but it chose to be around or in Cuba. Foster said this was important because of Cuba’s culture, poverty, corruption, and fishing.
