As the saying goes, the only competition we truly have is against ourselves. Human beings have always been driven to progress and improve which helps them reach their goals and aspirations. An important tool to help you progress is being able to assess one’s performance. Self assessment is a way to understand what your strengths are and what areas you might want to improve in. By knowing what these are, you will be able to understand what areas of your performance might need more work. I was able to do this by using the RNAO Leadership Self-Assessment and having my brother to assess me as well. According to Iglesias, Elena, and Vellanjo (2012), conflict has been a fundamental component of human activity throughout history. Conflicts occur in many parts of our lives such as our personal lives and professional careers. Moisoglou, Panagiotis, Galanis, Siskou, Maniadakis, and Kaitelidou (2014) discuss that there are five different conflict handling modes: competition, collaboration, compromise, avoidance, and ccommodation. The conflict mode that I was able to relate to the most was avoidance. This means, when in conflicts, I tend to avoid the person and would rather consider the situation never happened. I avoid conflicts because I do not like to be distracted from my tasks. I would rather focus on my work than stress over a disagreement I had with a colleague. Also, I enjoy being in good terms with everyone. I would rather move past any conflicts to maintain harmony. The aim for this approach to is to be cooperative and assertive to create a win-win solution that makes both parties satisfied. In this situation, the other party’s interest should be just as important as yours to create a beneficial solution. Also, good communication helps parties to hear both sides of the situation to avoid any misconceptions. Good communication includes nonverbal cues, such as listening to the other party’s concerns, and verbal cues, such as open ended questions. Referring to Beunza (2013), good communication allows you to find value in what the other party is saying and feeling. This makes you become empathetic to their emotions towards the conflict and creates a comfortable environment where both party’s can be feel understood. Another important skill in confliction resolution is knowing how to properly mediate a conflict. According to Cheng (2015), neutrality is an important aspect of conflict resolution meaning the mediator should be unbiased and open-minded to both parties. With good mediation, conflicts can be resolved in quickly and efficiently. Therefore, with the correct approach, I can be able to resolve conflicts quickly and
