In Michael Gerard Bauer’s book “The Running man” released in January 2004, is a great book about marginalized characters and shows many examples of what society misfits deal with and what goes through the character’s mind during the story. In the book it shows the experiences of these 2 characters named Tom Leyton and Joseph Davidson during the book. The contents of the novel show and reveal how an outsider starts from the bottom and goes through experiences to regenerate their confidence and be included in society or find their part in society, the author represents this in his structure in three parts, first how all their lives are in boxes, how they are separated from society, second in dream too deep revealing in his deep dreams that he

"Crossing the Swamp," a poem by Mary Oliver, confesses a struggle through "pathless, seamless, peerless mud" to a triumphant solitary victory in a "breathing palace of leaves. " Oliver's affair with the "black, slack earthsoup" is demonstrated as she faces her long coming combat against herself. Throughout this free verse poem, the wild spirit of the author is sensed in this flexible writing style. While Oliver's indecisiveness is obvious throughout the text, it is physically obvious in the shape of the poem itself.

What I learned from your book, Into the Wild, was that Chris McCandless, also known as Alexander Supertramp is a well known person for his expedition to Alaska with nothing on hand. He had no need for fundamental items as he lived in freedom and nature. He disliked controlling figures, the government and some may even say his parents. He began anew when he left college and donated all his money to charity to live in the wild.
Death will always complement war. This is seen clearly in Tim O’Brien’s short story “The Man I Killed”. In this tale the Main character, Tim, is vividly describing in his mind the enemy Vietcong solider he just killed life story before his death. He details everything, from the visible wounds on the soldier’s body to a fantasy of the man’s life. Meanwhile, to soldiers in Tim’s platoon acknowledge that he killed this man and try to speak to him about it.

The book I have chosen to review is Boy 21, a fictional read that is written by Matthew Quick. Quick is a New York Times best-selling author debuting in novels such as The Silver Linings Playbook and Love May Fail. To best describe this book, it is a captivating read that is comforting for the mind, as it canvasses the raw and unflinching life of a high school senior who displays love for basketball and life relationships. Furthermore, set in a troubled Belmont city of Philadelphia, Quick incorporates the presence of mobs and violence which is captivating towards the reader and audience. I was intrigued about how the novel was written through Finley the main protagonist, which was Quick’s childhood perspective of life in Philadelphia and his passion towards basketball.
The first book that I chose to read for my summer assignment was Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen. This book was very enjoyable and I’m glad that I picked it! This book opens up in first person point of view of Jacob Jankowski, an old man in a nursing home. In a few days the circus will be coming to town and Jacob is excited because he was in the circus at a young age. This book exists in two settings, one in the nursing home of ninety year old Mr. Jankowski, and the other flashback to sometime in the late 1920s early 1930s where young Mr. Jankowski is in the beginning of the great depression and prohibition.
Who is Margaret Walker? Margaret Walker was a poet who wrote five bibliography poems (Poetry Foundation). Margaret Walker wrote more poems but these are just the ones she wrote about her life. She leaned toward writing about nature and black lives, she addresses these things in the poems “Sorrow Home”, “ Memory”, and “Southern Song”, most people can relate to these types of poems because they can relate to being outdoors and doing hard work and putting forth the effort to get a job done. Margaret Walker was an interesting poet because her poems can transport the reader back to a time and place of hardships and struggles of the black community in the days of slavery and their strength to overcome these sometimes unbearable conditions.
Courage is a constant theme throughout Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. Taking place in Maycomb County during the 1930’s , the novel deals with the racism of the time period as well as what the true meaning of courage is versus the conventional. Although many characters portray courage throughout the novel Scout Finch, Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are the best examples of courage. Scout, the narrator, is the most obvious example of courage.
Stephen King’s “The Running Man” is a very tough book to summarise. There are many things that happen throughout it, but due to the nature of the situation, in the end everything around Ben Richards gets destroyed, causing many things that may seem to be key events to have very little impact on the ending of the story. The basic story, removing all of these elements, is that a man named Ben Richards is living an impoverished life in some random town in the U.S., and signs up for a death game called The Running Man to make a whole bunch of money so he can get his daughter’s pneumonia treated. The whole idea of The Running Man is that a man goes on the run for 30 days from the authorities and a group of people called the hunters who are chasing
