The face of America is always changing, and race is currently at the forefront of these changes. It is predicted by the US census bureau that by 2042, minorities will make up the majority of Americans. As the percentage of minorities in America rise, it changes dynamics in many parts of the country and causes controversy due to contrasting views. This change is caused by a variety of reasons, boiling down to the majority of children being born as minorities. This is already affecting the structure of our country, as seen in the 2016 election, and will continue to affect the future of our country for decades to come. As with any time something changes, or tries to change, there will be the unproductive few who fight the change with all their might. In this context, these groups are known most broadly as “Alt-right” groups, or more simply as hate groups. These rising racial differences have been perceived by some more right-wing whites as a negative change. This thinking has had a dramatic impact on our country, being the main reason our current president, Donald Trump, was elected in 2016. He played on white people’s fear of the rising minorities to become elected. As stated by Sean McElwee and Jason McDaniel, “Donald Trump successfully leveraged existing resentment towards African Americans in combination with emerging fears of increased racial diversity in America.” Already as of late 2016, New Mexico and California had the majority of their registered voters as minorities (Chokshi). This is a rather drastic change for America, and unfortunately not everyone is welcoming to this change. This reluctance, paired with the need for acceptance, will play a critical role in shaping the social and political landscape in the future and will be a major part in many people’s lives. This change in racial denominations within America has already affected our country, with people’s resentment towards the situation leading to the election of president Trump. As with all changes, eventually racial diversity and mixing of races will just be a basic fact of life for everyone, as it already is for many people, but it will take time and effort to get to that
