Introduction 1.(hook)Achieving your dreams is what everyone is trying to strive for, however in the book Of Mice and Men achieving your dreams is impossible 2. Is the book Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck suitable to be taught in schools around the U.S. 3.This book is not suitable to be taught in schools because it teaches kids that they will not achieve their dreams, it uses a lot of racism, and the sense of violence as in murder.
Paragraph 1: Dreams never come true.
In the book Readings on John Steinbeck, Warren French states the book is “A knight dismounted and a dream ended”(130). This shows me that George is a knight, his dream is dismounted when he kills Lennie.
Also throughout the book Lennie talks about having a rabbit farm once they make enough money. This dream is also crushed because we later find out Lennie never gets what his goal was set out for. …show more content…

John Steinbeck named this character crooks because of the racism that was held back then. Being a crook is not a good thing, and it means a criminal or someone who is dishonest.
“Why ain't you wanted?” Lennie asked. “Cause i’m black. They play cards in there, but I can’t play because i'm black.” (Pg. 67) Lennie is asking Crooks why he isn't allowed in with the other workers and Crooks replies because i'm black. This just shows how racist the book really is when they don’t even allow a black man in the same room as them. This is really bad because everyone should be viewed as equal, however if you are reading this book you may think otherwise.
