Racism has been something that our country has had to deal with as long as there has been multiple races in the U.S. We have come a long way since the days of African Americans being enslaved, and many decades later when they were still treated like they were not humans. Although we have seen great progress as a country, ignorance is a thing within many people that doesn't go away. So even today in 2017, there are still people who portray hate towards those who don't share their skin color. All in all I believe it is safe to say that racism has changed in the United States. African Americans have been the most noticeable target of hate and racism in the U.S for many years. They were made to be slaves for many years in our country's past, and even after we fought the civil war to end the cruel practice of slavery, blacks were treated with the same hate. This is shown in the novel Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, where Cassie and her family are subject to racism throughout the book. As time went on in the 20th century people who were black slowly started to be treated better in the community. Even though they faced many obstacles from people who still held on the racism, progress had started to be seen. This is shown in the movie Hidden Figures, where black women had for the first time started to work at NASA in the space program. They had earned their job there because of their great minds despite the color of their skin.
