It’s never just rain.” (Foster 70). As Foster explains, rain in novels is much more than just rain; it can symbolize a cleansing. The opening sequence of 1984, “It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen,” (Orwell 1) describes a generally odd occurrence. At midday in the heart of spring, having cold weather instills a colorless tone that sets up the novel to be a dark and dreary tale, shaping the reader’s view of the dystopian society as grimly depressing.
(Bradbury, 9). The use of personification is applied through the use of weather and emotion. The weather cannot portray real human emotions but it can symbolize anger and fury. The parallels between the children and the house are no mistake. The children’s raw emotions echo through the house, the environments in their lives only cater to them and their feelings.

These three pieces of Symbolism play a big part in the story and make the readers think a little more about what this could actually be telling us in the future of the
Symbolism can also be used to represent complex emotions and experiences the authors would find difficult to express only through words. Storms, for example, can deepen the idea of turmoil in one’s life. Along with that, symbolism creates powerful images, capturing the reader’s attention with memorable images all while highlighting the most important themes for the author to further help convey the message and main idea of the essay. For example, the continuous use of the gate as a symbol of
Whites choice to personify the thunderstorm blowing across the lake exemplifies the all too familiar feeling of an approaching thunderstorm. White vividly describes the thunderstorm by personifying the thunder and the lightning. His decision to personify them places the reader in that exact moment, standing next the the speaker. Both listening to the “crackling of the light against the dark” and watching the “gods grinning and licking their chops in the hills.” This causes the reader to this same experience from their childhood, just as the speaker recalls his own fond memories of August at the lake.
The author uses the weather to really make the reader feel sad and scared for Katniss. The author uses this to make the reader feel how sadness can really control you. The reader gets to experience it first hand, showing that sadness can control you in bad ways. Also, in Insurgent, Tris starts to throw her life away because she doesn’t care anymore. Tobias doesn’t want her to die and warns her that what she is doing isn’t a good idea.
Draft for the essay: In the short story, there will come soft rain ray Bradbury sets a somewhat post-apocalyptic and chaotic mood .He uses different literary devices to help us understand better what the atmosphere of the world is at the time. In there will come soft rain, Bradbury uses personification "The house shuddered, oak bone on bone, its bared skeleton cringing from the heat, its wire, its nerves revealed as if a surgeon had torn the skin off to let the red veins and capillaries quiver in the scalded air.” He uses this as a way to tell the reader about how the world is at this time.
In All Summer In a Day by Ray Bradbury talks about people living on venus. In the passage venus is always raining and that affects the character in the story. In PG 155 It say that venus is always raining it 's always dark and gloomy. Forest’s being washed out, and high and low tides.
In life we can all relate to the feeling of longing for something. In All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury’s characters’ lives are clouded with rain and the only see the sun once every seven years. Bradbury uses metaphors, emotions, and repetition to express the sun’s meaning of hope to the main character, Margot, and the children of rocket men and women on Venus. Metaphors and emotions are used to help the reader relate to the connection with the sun. He describes the sun and the rain using metaphors, and uses the children’s emotions to help further the idea.
Lastly the brilliant use of description is huge, especially when it comes to the hope, and demand for a brilliant future. First of all it is easily seen in the story how Ray Bradbury uses symbolism. Right off the bat Ray Bradbury explains how eager they are for the sun, after describing the constant rain they are constantly acquainted with. The rain is all they know just like the life they are living now is all they know, however they each have a great hope that they will make it out okay, with many exceptional things to come.
All Summer in a Day Author's Craft Essay In life, people never truly realize what they have, until it's gone. Imagine having to wait seven years for the sun to come out again, but only for a few hours and then disappearing again for another seven years. Well for the kids of Venus, that is typical life. Ray Bradbury's All Summer in a Day uses a variety of author's craft such as imagery, similes and metaphors to show readers the childrens deep need for freedom away from the rain that consumes their lives.
The use of imagery in "Storm Warnings" conveys the literal and metaphorical meanings of the oncoming physical and emotional storms. Rich uses to imagery show the anxiety she is feeling about the storm in the beginning. For example, "The glass has been falling all the afternoon," and, "gray unrest moving across the land. " Both of these images have negative connotations, which show what she is feeling and what she sees.
On the planet Venus, it has been raining for seven years, causing nothing but sadness to the nine year old students living there. “A thousand forests had been crushed under the rain and grown up a thousand times to be crushed again”(Bradbury 1). When Bradbury puts the words “crushed again,” in the text, it symbolizes how much the rain affected the lives of those living on Venus. Just like how the trees were getting crushed, all the childrens dreams of experiencing summer were crushed by the rain, making the rain the evil figure of the story. But, as soon as the sun comes out, the children are jubilant and, “They were running and turning their faces up to the sky and feeling the sun on their cheeks like a warm iron”(Bradbury 3).
