In “Ethan Frome,” the author’s tone can be identified clearly in many passages in the novel. One example in which tone is present is: “Her sombre violence constrained him: she seemed the embodied instrument of fate. He pulled the sled out, blinking like a night-bird as he passed from the shade of spruces into the transparent dusk of the open. The slope below them was deserted. More than 60,000 men avoided the draft for the Vietnam War, O’Brien taking part in that number. Burning draft cards, ignoring “casting” calls and fleeing to Canada grew as young American men were being called to fight a war none had wanted to take part in. The novel The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien uses many effective rhetorical strategies throughout. In the chapter On the Rainy River, Tim O’Brien tells the audience a story he has never told anybody. Not even his parents, siblings or wife. He narrates the events and emotions that he experienced after receiving a war draft notice during the summer of 1968. O’Brien is ashamed about how he dealt with the notice and he feels as though he is “too good” to go to war.

He says “History is an ever-changing beast because of accounts told by different people, ranging from eminent historians to the common folk who experienced the event.” meaning no matter what history will change everyday just by hearing from someone that was there that saw what happened, in other words history will always be different depending where you go as well as who you ask. So,the past as we know it is never the same. Most will strongly believe this to be true.
The author uses the weather to really make the reader feel sad and scared for Katniss. The author uses this to make the reader feel how sadness can really control you. The reader gets to experience it first hand, showing that sadness can control you in bad ways. Also, in Insurgent, Tris starts to throw her life away because she doesn’t care anymore. Tobias doesn’t want her to die and warns her that what she is doing isn’t a good idea.
In the short story, “On the Rainy River” by Tim O’Brien, the author develops the idea that when an individual experiences a feeling of shame and humiliation, they often tend to neglect their desires and convictions to impress society. Tim, the narrator, starts off by describing his feeling of embarrassment, “I’ve had to live with it, feeling the shame”, before even elaborating on the cause of the feeling. Near the end of the story, he admits he does not run off and escape to Canada because it had nothing to do with his, “mortality...Embarrassment, that’s all it was”. The narrator experiences this feeling of intense shame and then he decides that he will be “a coward” and go to war. His personal desire is that he wishes to live a normal life and could never imagine himself charging at an enemy position nor ever taking aim at another human being.

I live in a 3,000 square foot home with my father, dog, and brother. We have hoses, showers, sinks, a well, sprinklers, and many other items at my house that produce water.
"There Will Come Soft Rains" is a science fiction short story by Ray Bradbury. It incorporates many expressive languages, provides detailed clues for the reader to make inferences and it conveys deep messages. To start with, the narrative is set in the future on August 4th, 2026. The story took place inside an abandoned mechanical house beside surrounded by ruins. Throughout the story, there was an anonymous voice repeating the time and indicating reminders to complete jobs.
As Stated by the author of How to Read Literature Like a Professor For Kids, by Thomas Foster, authors use certain varieties of weather conditions in order to set a mood in the story that’s relevant to the scenario present. Foster explains this action as saying, “But an author doesn't have a quick shower of rain, or a flurry or snow, or a flood or a blizzard, for no reason at all (Foster, 59).” What the author is trying to remark is that authors don't put unnecessary weather unless it contributes to the plot or the mood, sometimes even using it as means of ivory. Weather Representing Emotions Normally weather and emotions are not associated, but throughout the novel The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald makes multiple references comparing the feelings of Jay Gatsby to the weather outside. He uses rain to represent the times of sadness or awkward situations. When those moods uplifted the clouds would break, and the sun would shine. Other times he would use heat to represent times of anger, or tension.
The impact of the weather scene is a way to indirectly relate to the murder of Victor’s young brother, William. The author, Shelley utilizes weather to convey the Victor’s emotional feelings about the murder of his bother William. Through imagery in the quote, Shelley is able to utilize words to describe the weather relating them to both the storm and what has happened to our protagonist. To me, the flashes of light illuminate the lake which is his brother. William’s illumination is the light of his life is soon quenched when the author describes the “pitchy darkness”
Reading Response Three The short story, “The Storm” by Kate Chopin was written in 1898 in Louisiana. In the story the protagonist, Calixta, is at home all alone when a sudden storm blows in, bringing with it a former beau named Alcee. Although both characters are married they have a short affair while waiting out the storm.
Ray Bradbury’s “There Will Come Soft Rains,” tells the story of a self-regulating house that is all that is left of the world. Through the use of diction, the reader is able to understand the shifts in tone throughout the story. In the beginning of the story, we are introduced to the house. Bradbury uses terms such as “ruined city,” “radioactive glow,” and “rubble and ashes,” (Bradbury 1) effectively creating a dark and forlorn atmosphere. The author’s word choice creates an image in the reader’s mind of how desolate the house’s surroundings are, ultimately contributing to the somber tone.
The sound of the rain made felt calm. Likewise, it reminded me that any struggle that was dealing was a temporary event. That event was not going to have a long duration. During the seven and eight lecture, Professor Garfin talked about the meaning of the word rain. The word “RAIN” is the recognition of the problem, acceptance of the problem, investigation of the problem, and non-identification of problem.
