Someone once declared, “Don’t be afraid of change. You might lose something good, but you’ll gain something better.” In certain situations, change is positive. On the contrary, when movie directors change the story, this makes the viewer or reader feel differently about the story. After reading the text and watching the movie, we come to appreciate the movie. Without question, the film adaption succeeds to create a better version of the text. The movie, The Raisin In The Sun, is more entertaining than the novel because the movie has more setting and amazing visuals that can make us understand the story.
In both the movie and the book, racism is shown. However, in the movie, racism is more developed. For example, in the book, when Travis needs the money for school, he does not explain why he needs it. On the other hand, in the movie, he explains to his parents exactly why he needs it. He tells his parents, “I need the money for my teacher to buy books for the poor negroes.” In the book, Travis only states, “Mama I need 50 cents for school,” but he does not explain what he needs it for. On the other hand, in the movie, we do see both of them at work. For example, in the movie, we see Walter opening car doors. Additionally, in the movie we also see Mama taking care of a little girl. Consequently, in the book, they only describe their work. Unfortunately, the book does not explain more about what they do and where they work. Surely, with omitting them at work, the book can not show us what they do and how they struggle. As a result, we can not see that they both have poor jobs that do not pay them enough money. While there are many similarities between the two, the differences can make us imagine the book much differently than the movie. In conclusion, taking their jobs out of the book, makes us imagine their poor jobs differently than they want us
