The law permits that employers are required to pay their workers an established minimal amount for their work known as minimum wage. In the United States there are many individuals struggling to live due to only being paid the minimum wage. Many families consists of working parents but they are paid minimum wage from their employers struggling to live comfortably due to such a low pay wage. The controversy of raising minimum wage has been an ongoing topic throughout the years with many different point of views upon the issue.

Those who are paid minimum wage low skilled workers working an entry level job. There are many full time employees at jobs working 40-60 hour weeks are struggling to provide for themselves.The cost of living tends to be much higher than what a worker making the minimum can afford for their family. As shown on the maps, there are little to no states that have a minimum wage worker working 40 hours a week living comfortably paying rent, and other needs such as food,heat water, etc. A worker working full time with 40 hours can't afford a one-bedroom rental without paying more than 30% of their income. There are many people who get paid even less than minimum wage, such a waiters and waitresses. They provide services to customers and have to base their incomes on the tips they receive, relying on the satisfaction of their customers. As shown on the maps, it appears that in states such as Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada the minimum waged workers were paid the same as tipped workers. While all the other states the waitresses and waiters get paid less because they are able to receive tips. Those who have to depend on tips tend to struggle a little more than the minimum waged workers.
