“‘It’s easier to follow fashion than it is to have personal style’” (“Ralph Lauren's Most Stylish Quotes”) When you think of clothing brands you most likely think of Nike, Air Jordan, and other brands like that but neither of those brands had to work as hard as Ralph Lauren did. You have probably heard of Polo shirts or the brand ‘Ralph Lauren’ but have you heard his whole story? Ralph went from selling ties he made in his drawer to college then to the military and still grew to be one of the richest people in the world. There are very few people that could make it through college and then the military so Ralph being able to do that and more while enduring poverty and doubt is incredible. He always sold the best and most high quality ties, even from the start. “He wanted his customers to understand that when they bought a Polo tie, they were getting the best.” (O’Connor 40). Even when Ralph was making his ties out of his dresser, he was making them the best quality and with the best material. Ralph loved his job too and it was like a dream come true to do what he loves for work. “This is not a job. This is joy” (O’Connor 101). He didn’t consider making clothes and selling them a job. Ralph's life joy came from making clothes for himself and people that liked his clothing too. Ralph was also very passionate about his friends and peers. “Who understood Ralph in a way that no one but a brother could'' (O’Connor 55). Ralph felt his friends were what was gonna help him get to where he wanted to be so he always kept his friends close. Ralph was told he needed to make his ties smaller and then they would sell but he did not listen he kept making them how he knew how to make them and how he liked them. No matter what he went through in his life he always came back to clothing. As a child he started with clothing, when he was in highschool he continued working on his dream, even in military camp he always went back to clothing and made his dream come true. “Lauren was able to fully develop his business with a $30,000 loan”(biography.com para. 4) Ralph got a 30,000 dollar loan from the bank and went from almost nothing to his own clothing business within half of a year.
