Randal Dale Adams was a 27-year-old male who was wrongfully convicted of killing a Police officer Robert Wood. On November 27, 1976 Randal Dale Adams car had run out of gas so he began walking down the street in Dallas, Texas. He was then approached by 16-year-old David Harris who had been driving a stolen car and Randal Dale Adams had no idea it was stolen. David Harris offered him a ride and for several hours they smoked, drank and eventually watched a movie at the drive in. David Harris then took Adams back to the hotel he had been staying at. David told the cops that he was in the car when Randal Dale Adams shot the gun. The cops then began to question Randal Dale Adams and had him sign a statement which only stated what the two men had done during the day and that they had passed by where the murder took place and that was a false confession given by Adams. There were also two eyewitnesses who also had claimed to see the car and identify Adams as the person who shot the officer. The police were determined to find the killer because it was one of their fellow officers. When the case went to trial and there was a false confession by Adams, eyewitnesses along with the officer who had been in the car stating that the person who killed her partner had the same color hair as Adam the jury found Randal Dale Adams guilty. He was sentenced to death in 1977 and in 1979 when he was going to be executed he was saved by the Supreme court and sentenced to life in prison instead of the death penalty. In March 1985 a man named Errol Morris who was a filmmaker began to make a documentary on a doctor who had testified at Adams court case and he began to research Adam. Errol realized that Adam was not at fault and it was David Harris who had a long criminal background. When Errol Morris brought new evidence regarding the case Adams attorneys were able to get a new trial which eventually
