Randall Woodfield: I-5 Killer What is a serial killer? According to most, a serial killer is someone who has murdered multiple people, in most cases that are classified as serial one would have killed three or more persons in a time span of a month. The recurring action of killing creates the significance of the word serial before the word killer. Oftentimes serial killers' actions of killing are driven by a psychological thrill or pleasure. Throughout history, there have been many serial killers ranging from different amounts of kills, modus operandis, reasonings, and many other factors. One serial killer that caught my attention, in his background and the way he victimized his victims, was Randall Woodfield.

At the age of twenty-four, he had opportunities to finish his educational career, but he instead chose an indecisive life. He struggled in finding a stable job, romantic life, and residence. He was moving backward in his life, at a time when one would usually be moving forward (Wertheim). Woodfield began his crime in 1975, as police were in shock as a series of crimes involving women were becoming more frequent. At the time of the attacks first occurring, the man who had committed the crime would be identified as athletically built and handsome. Woodfield was caught on his rampage by his interactions with one of his murderers. Police found Woodfield to be an acquaintance of the murdered victim. Woodfield's previous record of being in prison made police suspicious of his involvement. There was enough evidence gathered to prosecute Woofield and there were witnesses that provided evidence that linked Woodfield to the crimes on trial. (Román) Woodfield would end up serving the rest of his life and continues to serve to this day in prison (Smith).
Randall Woodfield’s Mugshot Randall Woodfield was a man known to the eastern states, surrounding Interstate 5, as a gruesome killer. Woodfield had gone on his spree for a little under a year, although his rampage seemed to last multiple years. Woodfield, a serial killer, serial rapist, kidnapper, robber and burglar was sentenced to life imprisonment plus additional time. With the capture of Randall Woodfield, citizens surrounding Interstate 5 can now be at ease, although Woodfield was not convicted to many of the murders he was suspected to. Woodfield never confessed to these murders, leaving families uncertain of loved ones
