Random Sampling strategies were used to organise different topics and themes as well as create categories for the posts being used (King et al, 2013:4). The advantages of this method is that themes and topics were analysed which positively influences the research and you are able to have an exact count of the information and make inferences regarding the information found, it relies on statistics and the information is reliable and valid according to Deacon et al (2007:121). Random sampling is seen as an easy way to count data as the information is selected and used in graphs and pie charts as indicated in the article and it eliminates any bias as categories and websites are chosen randomly (Deacon et al, 2007:120).

This is an effective method of analysis because it helped gain critical interest about the topic and it helped identify themes that were evident in the hate speech (Erjavec & Kovačič, 2012). This is evident in the article as the author was able to focus on the main themes of hate speech and have different positions of people who use hate speech (Schroder, 2012:106). The texts are very important to the research process and this is evident in the article by Karmen Erjavec (2012). An example of this in the article is that different themes of hate speech were identified with regards to the online texts such as comments are seen as either authoritarian which are comments that rely on obedience and self control they tend to conform to beliefs of group or libertarian which states that comments are used for freedom of expression and self-assertive participation that include protest action and these people are generally open to new ideas (Erjavec & Kovačič, 2012:902). This information was gained by using a critical discourse analysis which emphasises the effectiveness of this method and how it improved the author’s …show more content…
This method is known as a coding frame which is a table that is produced that contains all the relevant values of the variables that were found and it is used to interpret the data and make sense of the information (Deacon et al, 2007:126). This is a good method to analyse specific data as themes and numbers are taken into account and the researcher is able to analyse the information at a deeper level according to Deacon et al (2007). This is evident in the article regarding the censorship of China as 85 topic areas were defined using keywords and categories were created to define the main reasons for censorship which were collective action potential, criticism of the censors, pornography and other news (King et al, 2013:6). The coding frame was used to analyse the categories and create themes regarding censorship and to establish the main reasons behind it and was effective in doing so as the main reason for censorship in China is to eliminate collective action and to protect the country (King et al, 2013:7). The critical discourse analysis is seen as a more reliable method as it considers all the aspects of the research while the coding frame relies on themes and data and fails to consider the texts and
