The men and women at the heart of the film were all victims of sexual assault, who chose to retell their tales to bring national attention to the often silenced issue of sexual assault on college campus. However, some survivors not only spoke out about their assault, but became some of the fiercest advocates against sexual violence and rape on college campus, shortly following their assaults. These men and women started anti-rape marches and demonstrations and protests, commanding national attention that extended to the steps of the White House. Though these advocates were forced to endure such a horrible experience, their personal development as a result is clear. If it had not been for their adversity, they most likely would not have spoken out against these issues.

Sexual harassment is a common problem for women in the workplace. The trauma they suffer as a result is extensive. More than half a million women work in the fields and a majority are undocumented immigrants. The documentary Rape in the Fields, addresses some of the struggles these workers face. Due to their immigrant status the women are powerless, subject to unwelcome sexual advances and unable to seek help from the authorities.

Rape on the Night Shift is a documentary about the sexual assaults that some of the janitors suffer while working at night. This documentary reveals the injustice that these workers have to go through because most of them are undocumented and they don’t know their rights. The experiences of woman in this documentary is correlated with the feminist theory, the idea of seeing women unequal to men and the idea of the men having the power to control women. Indeed, the documentary let us see the gender inequality, exploitation, and the de-valuing of woman’s work. We see the feminist theory in the documentary when the managers or supervisors sexually abuse of their workers.
During the silent film era, people revolved around watching motion pictures. Films are similar to dreams, were one can escape for a while. Although, sometimes a film could relate to someone in the audience going through something for instance, divorce, immigration, women’s suffrage, poverty and political corruption to name a few. Today we think the silent era films were innocent only because people during that time were very conservative, but we are wrong because people enjoyed watching glamour, exoticism, and sex appeal. The movie clearly exposes the many ways that the human dignity of African- American maids was ignored. They had suffered daily embarrassment but were able to claim their own way dignity. The film described about empowerment of individuals as well as about social justice for a group. It is a moving story depicting dehumanization in a racist culture but also the ability to move beyond the unjust structures of society and to declare the value of every human being.
Black women are treated less than because of their ascribed traits, their gender and race, and are often dehumanized and belittled throughout the movie. They are treated like slaves and are seen as easily disposable. There are several moments throughout the film that show the racial, gender, and class inequalities. These moments also show exploitation and opportunity hoarding. The Help also explains historical context of the inequality that occurred during that time period.
The chapter of Denial highlights and show us the experience of black women trying hard to change themselves to fit in with the society. The use of the techniques of mise-en-scene in the visual film provide the audience with with the reality in which black women are safe and comfortable. Black women should be fearless and learn to make decisions for themselves without the influence of the society and what the media says about them.
