In recent years, the media has focused quite a bit attention on news stories focusing on the sexual assault of unconscious girls at parties and the cyberbullying that occurs after pictures and videos of the assault are spread online. Alcohol is a major contributing factor in these cases. In this assignment I will be analyzing the documentary Audie and Daisy by applying concepts discussed over the course of the semester. First I will examine the concept of victim blaming and explain how the girls were ultimately blamed for their own victimization. Next I will discuss the contributing role of alcohol in sexual assault cases. Lastly, I will examine the impact and consequences of sexual assault on the lives of the primary victims and secondary victims.

Benjamin Mendelsohn known as the “father of victimology” has a theory about the relationship between the victim and the criminal and created a classification of victims based on their culpability or the degree of the victim’s blame. A mother never wants to hear the words “your daughter was rape”. The reason why this affects Daiy’s mother is that as a mother she never wants her daughter to suffer anything or be the subject of any crimes. Daiy’s brother was a secondary victim because not only his sister the primary victim of the situation, but the person who raped her was suppose to be the person whom he considered his best friend. Imagine having a person who you trust be the one that hurts you the most by raping your little sister.
