Would you be tempted to eat the forbidden fruit is displayed in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s gothic short story “Rappaccini’s Daughter”. A long time ago a young man named Giovanni Guasconti moved to Italy to pursue his studies although he discovered something else. A garden so beautiful and enchanting similar to the daughter of the owner of the garden, Beatrice, who was the forbidden fruit of the town. So Giovanni watched her from afar until he could not any more so he discovered a secret entrance into the garden. Once he snuck into the garden Beatrice and Giovanni fell in love just as fast as Romeo and Juliet. Although as their love for each other bloomed something else was lurking in the forefront of Giovanni’s mind. The warning that Guasconti gave him to avoid Rappaccini and his daughter.
One day Giovanni’s professor, Baglioni, came to Giovanni about him missing so much school and notices a change in Giovanni. After this realization, Baglioni reveals a dark secret about Rappaccini and his daughter. The secret was …show more content…

Rappaccini also revealed his reason for poisoning Beatrice was to protect her so Baglioni and Guasconti were both wrong about Rappaccini not loving his daughter. Although it was too late the antidote killed Beatrice since she had too much poison in her system. In addition the story had many qualities similar to both Romeo and Juliet and Adam and Eve. The reason for Romeo and Juliet is since they both shared a forbidden love as well as the poison/antidote scene at the conclusion. Although the story is also similar to Adam and Eve since Beatrice appears to be similar to Eve, innocent and the garden was the equivalent to the garden of Eden beautiful but deadly. Furthermore both Guasconti and Beatrice were tricked by Rappaccini, the snake, although the snake is not evil compared to the story but confuse on how to be a single
