I chose an article named “Chance the Rapper Sued for Copyright Infringement” written by Anna Tingley from the Billboardbiz website. In the article Anna tells us that Chance the Rapper is being sued by Abdul Wali Muhammad (formerly Eric Saunders), a jazz musician and composer based in New-York, who claims that Chance the Rapper used portions of the song “Bridge Through Time” in his song “Windows” on his debut mixtape name “10day”. I found an article from the Chicago Tribune with the same title as the one from Billboard written by Nereida Moreno, where she basically explains the same thing as the other article but adds something that I think is very important. In this article, she posted a tweet from Chance the Rapper saying that “10day was fraudulently put on iTunes and applemusic. It'll be down shortly. 10day and acid rap will always be inclusive, elusive and free”, also she pointed out that according to the online journal Pitchfork, Chance initially self-distributed the “10 Day” mixtape by passing it around to friends on the street and that it had never been for sale but was mistakenly uploaded to iTunes and Apple Music in …show more content…
It also talks about terms that we learned in class like the Copyright’s Owner’s exclusive rights, in the article they say that Muhammad requested a court order to stop Chance from “copying, distributing, performing, selling or offering to sell the song”, and in class we talked about the five rights that are: reproduce, perform, derive, display, and distribute.
