I was going to die. It all seemed too soon. I was just entering the sixth grade and I had way too much to look forward to. What would my friends think when my teacher introduced the class and mentioned, “By the way, Ravjot will not be with us, she is dead.” It didn’t seem like a good fit. You aren’t going to die now, I told myself. My mind was caught between get up and let it go, but it wasn’t until an angel came from above, extending her arm and motioning up. “It was only a slight fall, Ravjot, I will get you some ice.” That angel was actually my mother, and she always had a way with turning my dramatic scenarios into immature realizations. Her broken English was very manipulative, and always conned me into believing nothing was wrong. Her words had no effect on me today. For the benefit of all, I decided to come down the stairs with a bang-- literally. It was a necessary undertaking, but in reality it led to an embarrassing failure. As I slid down the rail, cape in place, screaming, “Supergirl!”, I miscalculated my projection speed, and before I knew it I had hit overdrive. I screamed for my life as I fell over the rail, limbs tumbling over one another, fingers grasping at the air until I tasted the bitterness of the floor. Struggling to catch my breath, I soon realized that I had hit the rock bottom that existed beyond the rock bottom. I had turned into water, seeping through the rails and had drowned myself onto the floor. A loud and obnoxious siren would have been more soothing than the groans that involuntarily left my mouth. I lay there, paralyzed, unable to comprehend what had just occurred, and was devastated by my unsuccessful
