John Singleton’s film, Boyz N the Hood, displays the challenging upbringing of adolescents who have to live with harsh conditions around not only their home but also their surrounding town. The film compares the differences between the lifestyles of Tre Styles and his friends’, Darren and Ricky Baker. Darren and Ricky are half-brothers who are nothing alike. Singleton demonstrates the importance of male leadership in a home in the ghetto of Los Angeles by comparing the difference between the lifestyles of Tre and his friends. While many adolescents in the hood have close friendships, some form close relationships by assembling gangs and create a world of violence due to alcohol abuse, which together ultimately breeds discrimination.

In lieu of a dramatic, unrealistic resolution against this widespread mindset, Robinson 's team was able to set aside their differences and unify with him. Robinson’s victory was in proving to the world that African American people can perform at the same level as other Americans and should be treated as such. The question becomes whether or not the film was able to entertain the viewer through all these common pitfalls. Against the odds, I feel the film was very successful in that right. Ray Charles Robinson, known to many as Ray Charles “The Great” was born on September 23, 1930 in a small town of Albany, Georgia. He was a pianist, songwriter, and singer. Ray’s mother was a sharecropper and his father was a mechanic, when Ray was little they moved to Greenville, Florida. In Mr. Charles early years of life he was a witness of his little brother drowning to death. In some type of way, Charles began to lose his eyesight right after the death of his little brother.
Malcolm X was an extensively heavy participant in the fight for equality during the Civil Rights Movement. Malcolm X went above and beyond the call of duty, realizing that every book he read gave him more “sensitivity to the deafness, dumbness, and blindness that was afflicting the black race of America” (Malcolm X 643). Segregation had been going on for some time, and Malcolm X was sick and tired of the poor treatment. This brutal discrimination of African Americans is what called Malcolm X to action. When Malcolm X landed himself in Charlestown Prison, he decided to devote himself to studying and writing to improve his knowledge for his people.
In the book Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison, the book is a very good representation of the racial lens. The racial lens is a lens that has to deal with with racial slurs or sequences the character in the book encounter. Milkman is Guitar's best friend, and due to the fact that Milkman was always wealthy from birth and he lived on the other side of town, Milkman does not understand how someone could be so radicalized as Guitar is. Throughout the book, we can see how Guitar was always passionate about his race since his childhood, and how what white people have done has really affected him life. When Guitar’s father died in a brutal accident at his father’s work place, a white man came to tell him and his family and offered Guitar candy for his father's death.
As Branch Rickey once famously said, “We had a victory of fascism in Germany. It's time, time we had a victory over racism at home.” Throughout the incredible movie 42, the director relates the story back to this main theme; there needs to be a victory over racism at home in America. The movie starts out fast and never stops moving forward. The actors do a fantastic job portraying the main characters and help show what Jackie Robinson went through during the roughest, and most exciting, years of his life.

The film depicts how Morgan Freeman struggled to effect the change in the lives of the individuals by removing away the segregation boundaries. The film 13th directed by Ava DuVernay targets an intended audience of the Media and the three branches of the United States government with an emphasis that mass incarceration is an extension of slavery. It is intended to inform viewers about the criminalization of African Americans and the United States prison boom. 13th uses rhetorical devices in its claim to persuade the viewers by using exemplum in the opening seconds of the film. President Barack Obama presents statistics, saying “the United States is home to 5% of the world’s population but is home to 25% of the world’s prisoners.” Also the film uses a hyperbole in talking about the movie Birth of a Nation produced in 1915 which portrays a black man as a violent savage who will kill white women.
Conformity is behavior in accordance with socially accepted conventions or standards. Also according to Webster's dictionary social repression is is the act of controlling, subduing or suppressing people, groups and larger social aggregations by interpersonal means. I agree to the greater extent that during the 1950’s were a time of conformity and social repression. In American life housing, genders and culture get an impact on conformity and social repression.
As I read this article 15 times or more trying to fully understand it all, my mind is taken back over, and over again to the movie, “The Blind Side.” In this movie Michael Oher has to overcome being taken from his mother at a young age, becoming homeless, adapting to a new life with a “family.” He has to try to fit in, in his new school, make decent grades. The school is predominately white, Christian school, and Michael is a black kid from the wrong side of the tracks. With help from his new family, friends, and the community Michael overcomes many obstacles and goes from a not so smart homeless kid, to high school graduate with college football in his future.
