Whether kind, happy, loving, there are emotions in the minds of people living and existing around us. You can find them anywhere. Right next to someone, someone might be crying because they are sad. Those are all different kinds of emotions. Like robots or cars can’t have emotions because they are not a living thing, emotions can be very weak sometimes but also can be your strong weapon. In the story called “ Raymond’s Run,” which was written by Toni Cade Bambara, there is a girl name Squeaky who is the main character. Also because she wins first place at running every year, she believes that she must always win and she thinks that practicing will always make her perfect. This leads to Squeaky winning all the time and making her strong and confident in running. The Adidas quote “Impossible is nothing” also relates to stereotypes. Whenever you see someone is superior to someone else, those kinds of things are called gender stereotypes. It is very uncomfortable to have that mindset because it is not a good thing to do. In this following quote, it shows this type of stereotype which is “But a lot of people call him my little brother cause he needs looking after cause he’s not quite right. (p. 25, lines 10-12) This quote demonstrates what happened to Squeaky’s brother Raymond who is mentally disabled. Everyone thought that he was very weird because he was mentally disabled. However, that success in life sometimes depends on how much time you spend on it and how hard you worked. Squeaky is a very good example of that. Every time Squeaky thinks that she is best at running and nothing is impossible to her, it is all made possible from her practice and her hard work. Inside this believing there also live some emotions like kindness, happiness, and love, which the reader can see very often in their own lives. When she has trouble time with her life, she runs, which is a way for Squeaky to escape from the trouble. Like the Adidas motto “Nothing is impossible,” Squeaky views herself as a runner and she spends her life proving her value as the fastest runner in her neighborhood, which is one of the few things in her life that others, at least, respect and applaud her for. She shows the power of believing in yourself and the power of practicing hard.
